Gosh... I'm soooooooooooo frustrated this morning due to some irresponsible chicken owner.
A month back, a chicken laid some eggs at my front porch - right on the cement floor!! Thinking that the chicken might appreciate a proper place, I put up a make-shift nest for it using garden pots - well, not after we've taken some of the eggs. I knew that mother hen won't be able to handle too many little chicks! This is actually the third time I've got hens laying eggs around the house and I've witnessed how the hens lost their babies... That was why we took away the eggs this time. And not even once the onwer came and asked.
However, the hen managed to keep five of the eggs for itself. And somehow, the hen become another familiar addition to my house. My roomates called it our adopted chicken. A month passed and yesterday two cute little babies came out. Another one was crushed to death by its mother and the other two eggs didn't hatch. Well, it must be the hen's first time...
As soon as the hen brought out its little chicks, the boys of the neighbourhood started to throw things at them, despite our effort to stop them. It forced the chicken into the empty drain - which is too steep for the chicks to climb out.
Then last night the rain poured heavily to the ground.
This morning, I saw the drain full of moving water and the mother hen clucking away not far from it. And I feel so damned frustrated...
If you want to raise chickens, please provide a proper coop for it.
